Project Impact
Chile: a pioneer in renewable energy and climate protection in South America
The country is located in the southern hemisphere, which means that it receives plenty of sunlight all year round. The Atacama Desert in northern Chile is one of the driest and sunniest places on earth - and an ideal location for the constant production of solar energy. The Chilean government has implemented policies and incentives to promote the development of renewable energy, including solar, which have attracted significant investment in the sector. Chile has thus become a leading country in the production of solar energy and has the potential to further expand its capacity in the future.

About the project

Sustainable agriculture in Chile
Agricola Munizaga El Ingenio: a family business with a future
Agricola Munizaga El Ingenio is a traditional family farm in Ovalle, Chile. Due to the ongoing drought, the company has reorganised its cultivation: Instead of avocados, they now grow sustainable citrus fruits. These are exported worldwide - including to the USA, Japan and the Far East. Resource-conserving cultivation is an important step towards sustainable agriculture in Chile.

Innovative agriculture with a strong team
Sustainable cultivation through experience and commitment
The company is managed by José Miguel Munizaga and his wife Francisca Villalon. Supported by four permanent employees and up to 60 seasonal harvest workers during the harvest season, the team focusses on sustainable cultivation methods. With their many years of experience and modern techniques, they strengthen agricultural production and the export of high-quality citrus fruits from Chile.

Solar energy for a green future
Renewable energies in agriculture
To reduce its ecological footprint, Agricola Munizaga is focussing on renewable energies. A new solar plant with a total capacity of 300 kWp supplies the farm with clean electricity. This campaign is financing 72 kWp of the system, which consists of a total of 546 high-performance Ja Solar modules. The solar plant has been in operation since April 2024 and actively contributes to sustainable agriculture in Chile.
background

We want to develop our family business not only in exports, but also to become more sustainable. For us, the use of solar power is an important step towards guaranteeing our customers sustainable cultivation.
