Access to energy is key to economic growth and social progress. Around 570 million people in sub-Saharan Africa live without access to electricity. Power cuts are commonplace. Investing in local solar energy projects provides reliable and affordable energy to manufacturers and farmers, promotes sustainable growth and creates jobs.

The Kenyan company Rift Valley Roses is a pioneer in the sustainable flower industry. The use of solar energy not only supports 100,000 direct and 400,000 indirect jobs in the most important industry in Kenya, but also creates fair working conditions, especially for women. Clean energy production strengthens the local community and promotes sustainable business practices.

FairAfric in Ghana shows how solar energy can make chocolate production more sustainable. By producing chocolate directly in the country where the cocoa beans are grown, FairAfric breaks with old trade structures and creates local added value. The solar system on the roof reduces dependence on the electricity grid and minimises the company's CO₂ footprint.

With the existing solar system from ecoligo, we have been using green solar energy to power our irrigation systems and cold stores since 2019. The performance of the first few years has convinced us to expand further. With the support of ecoligo and the German Energy Agency, we will implement a new technology and make our water reservoir usable for photovoltaics.
